Otoplasty

The otoplasty is the operation which corrects ear’s imperfection (flappy ears).

This particular auricle’s shape is a congenital malformation which is determined by two alterations: conca’s hypertrophy and/or lack of antelice’s fold, the ear’s refolded margin, that doesn’t exist in 70% of flappy ears’ cases.

These two alteration can also to appear associated.

We treat cartilaginous’ structures to restore physiological curves which are normally present in auricle’s shape.

The operation bring auricle’s shape near the nape and sometimes it model and modify the form. Often we prefer to intervene with this operation because flappy ears can give rise to psychological problems as self-confidence. The patient is subjected to local anaesthesia with sedative, also if we practice general anaesthesia on children and frightened.

Operations’ techniques:

Surgical correction of flappy ears is obtained thanks to a technique which act on auricular cartilage modelling and moving it near the head: this alteration is caused by cartilage’s form and position.

We intervene incising behind the ear and removing the part of skin, which cover deformed cartilage. Then the cartilage, after have been exposed, is modelled to continue in restoring antelice’s relief and correcting conca, that, when it’s too big have to be reduced by removing a part of it.

Which aesthetic problems we can solve:

We can solve merely aesthetic problems as flappy ears and forchetta’s auricular lobe.
